Emotion Regulation: Build a Life Worth Feeling
Emotion regulation means learning to navigate, not avoid, your inner world. When emotions are intense or overwhelming, it can feel like they're in charge — but they don’t have to be. This skill set helps you regain balance, build self-awareness, and create the conditions for emotional clarity and resilience.
Check the Facts:
Emotions are powerful messengers — but not always accurate. Sometimes our brain reacts to assumptions or interpretations rather than truth. This skill invites you to pause and ask: Is this feeling based in reality, or a story I’m telling myself? Clarity begins here.
Opposite Action:
Every emotion urges action — fear says flee, anger says fight, sadness says shut down. When emotions don’t fit the facts or acting on them isn’t helpful, choose the opposite. Gently approach what you fear. Soften when angry. Smile even when it’s hard. This rewires the body from the outside in.
PLEASE (Reduce Emotional Vulnerability):
When your body is unbalanced, emotions hit harder. PLEASE is a body-based tool to stabilize your foundation:
PL — Treat Physical Illness
E — Balanced Eating
A — Avoid Mood-Altering Substances
S — Sleep Well
E — Exercise Regularly
Regulating the body is the first step to regulating the mind.
